Our founder’s experience of fostering two Kenyan children named Rama and Issack has led to the creation of a network of support for underprivileged communities in Kenya over the course of 20 years. The name “Ramissa” is a combination of these two names.
Ramissa is a brand that operates under Antigone, a not-for-profit organization based in Nairobi, Kenya. Established in 2022, Antigone operates as a Limited by Guarantee company, meaning that all revenue, generated by the company, will be automatically reinvested back into its operations in order to advance its objectives and mission. This unique structure allows Ramissa to focus on its mission to create a world without wasted humans, resources and goods, while also promoting social empowerment and sustainability.
The fashion industry contributes up to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions and causes water pollution. Clothing underutilization and lack of recycling lead to more than USD 500 billion of value loss each year. It takes 20,000 liters of water to produce one kilogram of cotton and 64% of the 32 billion garments produced annually end up in landfills. In Kenya 185,000 tons of clothes are imported each year, with 40% being waste. 69% of fibers used in clothes are synthetic and their disposal leads to microplastic fibers in the food chain and human body.
Upcycling
we extend the lifespan of textile products by creating new value from existing materials instead of disposing them in landfills.
Social empowerment
using our resources to support the creation of decent working conditions for our suppliers and community-driven entities.
People-centric digitalization
by embracing technology and digitalization, we will be able to create a more efficient and sustainable operation while also prioritizing the well-being of individuals and communities.
Sharing culture
we believe in “I am because we are” open to partnerships, collaborations, and exchange, recognizing that we can achieve more together than alone.
